What I find daunting about this is the same thing that makes it great - the detail. At time the book just sprawls, introducing new characters and lands so often that when an old character is later revisited, I've often forgotten all context. It's very engrossing overall though, and I hope the book series starts winnowing down again.

The default way people should experience A Song of Ice and Fire. The mastery of George R. R. Martin's writing has been praised by the masses, and it is deserved. His descriptive skill and pseudo-historical narrative structure makes a truly gripping epic. I do sincerely hope it finishes one day.

I managed to finish #5 of the ASOIAF books on the anniversary of 5000 days since the last release! It’s a good fantasy fiction with great character development throughout.  Hands down, my favorite character is and will always be Daenerys Targaryen, she is mother.

I listened to all ASOIAF books via Libby audio book rental, narrated by Roy Dotrice. Roy flavored the reading with a ton of varied character voices. It made for a fun experience overall, but the voices didn’t have continuity between books, or even chapters at some points. He also made some interesting choices for some characters name pronunciation (Brienne of Tarth, most notably). Still, loved hearing the books told by him, and was sad to learn he passed in 2017! RIP Roy ❤️

I watched the show late into senior year of high school and found myself engulfed with fascination at this fictional world. I binged the show and even stayed up nights watching it. When it finished I hadn't really thought anything was wrong with it, until I started seeing other people's critiques. Then everything became so clear at how screwed up that ending was. It didn't stop me from wanting to delve deeper into the story. One Christmas, I decided to begin reading again and bought the first book of the series from Barnes. I hadn't read for a while before so I wasn't really turning pages like it was an addiction. But every time I read I found it really enjoyable. I had been watching lots of youtube videos on the world and its history and everything started connecting. It took me a whole year to finish these five books and I will say they were pretty good. One downside is the sex scenes. I'm not against grim dark, so I'm OK with reading violence but reading sex is not for me. Especially with THIS GUY's descriptions and imagery. I know the story has dragons and zombie ice people but I think the story leans more into light fantasy. It feels more like a medieval world setting and someone asked George to add dragons and ice zombies to get attention. I really only like the intrigue, politics, world building, I'll say dragons in this case are cool but not my go to. A good series overall. Storm of Swords being the best book.
