I don't care about Essos. As much as Darwin weeps for Westeros, it's a more credible society than those in Essos. Essos lacks (seemingly) the interesting weather, characters to invest in, and agriculture. (Olives and other fruit are lovely but don't sustain cities and armies.) Martin had done so well until Slaver's Bay in naming characters without the high-value Scrabble tiles. Introducing new characters of this much dynastic importance in the fifth book is sloppy. At least Connington's name had come up before. A quote from "Holy Grail" for your kniggets, really, Martin? The spell is broken.
reminds me of mid-series lost where suddenly a bunch of new characters, plot lines, and themes are thrown in when, really, all we want is more desmond/ben/starks/lannisters.
