In reviewing the series as a whole, I must give credit to it and the author - A Song of Ice and Fire is, without a doubt, the best crafted fantasy of our generation. While it lives in the shadow of Lord of The Rings, asoiaf and Westeros were crafted in a way that would make readers think that they were actual places. The recent release of the history book from asoiaf helps that, but in reading the core books, it doesn't fell like readina story and watching it unfold, it reads as if you were reading a history, reading things that definitely did happen. I cannot praise this series high enough.

I liked the first book and was glad to follow along with the show. The second book seemed overly long with parts that dragged and, in my opinion, could have been edited out. I didn't have the patience to keep going with the series as life is short, and there are many other books deserving to be read.
