This was such a great book. We first met Jasper in a previous V&V book where we learned about him having trouble moving on after the death of his husband. He and Liam definitely were not expecting to meet or to be there for each other. This was one of those books that I didn't want to end since I was so invested in what was happening on the pages. I absolutely loved it!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily gave my honest review.

Wow, that is some instalove. Cute take on the “stranded in a snowstorm with a broken down car” idea. Plus Gus. Quality doggo content. However, I’m not sure the author has ever lit a fire before. Take out kindling, put it on the already crackling fire, and then later add some newspaper? Huh??

Widower
Forced proximity
Kinda instalove

Liam finds himself breaking down in Vermont on his cross country road trip. Walks in to a bar. Sounds like the setup to a joke but instead he meets a hot mechanic.

Jasper has been a widower for 3 years. And the day he meets Liam just so happened to be the same day he threw out the sheets his husband had picked out. And realized maybe he was ready to move on.

Jasper and Liam’s relationship felt natural but I wish we could’ve had more communication. It felt like it wasn’t enough of them together. There is a lot they don’t want to tell each other at first. And then it’s time for Liam to go back to California. When he gets home he realizes he left his home and heart back in Vermont.

It’s very low angst.

Jasper and Liam were a great couple. I enjoyed the story. I would recommend to others.

This is my first book by Kate Hawthorne. I absolutely adored this book. Loved Grumpy Jasper & outgoing Liam. I couldn’t get enough of the electricity between them! Another amazing addition to the Vino & Veritas series.

I liked it well enough and the characters remain true to the rest of the series. But for some reason I can't put my finger on, this one just didn't grip me like the others I've read. Don't get me wrong, it was sweet and well-written and I have zero regrets reading it.

I can’t even rate this ugh. I was so interested in Jasper from Unguarded AND two of my fave narrators read this one so I decided to try it DESPITE the author being on my permanent DNR list. I loved the narrators as I knew I would but the strong was flimsy and frustrating. It felt like eating plain cheerios with skim milk. Just bland. Not much depth to the characters and the story was weak when it had so much promise.

I did like how Liam (24/twink) was the top to Jasper (31/tall and built) but that was kinda it. Their dynamic was fun in the bedroom but the dead spouse took up too much time but also was oddly not a big part? Hard to explain. This just felt emotionless. Also no epilogue? In 2021????? That’s a wild choice.

Keeping Kate on my DNR list because her writing is either bland or infuriating (I added her to my permanent DNR after reading Rebound which if you haven’t read that … don’t).

some typos

There are a few typos, specifically with some quotations missing marks. This wasn’t my favorite V and V story but I did enjoy the characters. I think it was just a bit more angsty than I normally go for.
