The first couple issues (especially the first) were really hard to follow. By the end of this arc, I did find the story quite interesting, but it was brought down by the beginning. I also didn't care for the artwork.

Quick thoughts: Skip all the previous stuff- this is the incarnation that you want to read to prepare for the movie

After seeing the movie, I bought into the hype. It's clear that one of the reasons for the success of the movie is the fantastic source material. This was well written, fun, and gorgeous. Plus: a telepathic space dog named Cosmo.

A decent start, but I think the characterizations were closer to what made it to the silver screen in the Annihilation events. I know nothing about the Guardians 3k team, so Vance Astro showing up felt like an interruption. Will definitely be continuing to read to see the team develop.

News that the next series of Marvel Universe movies will include one based on Guardians of the Galaxy prompted me to read this book; it has everything one wants and expects out of super-hero comics - ridiculous, over-the-top drama, loose plots, and gorgeous, lush visuals. If that's your thing, this is a good read. If you're looking for something with a little more meat, maybe look elsewhere.

This book is the one where the Guardians of the Galaxy are officially formed. It is a story full of humour and some mind spinning situations including time travel and galaxy wide destruction. Seminal cosmic Marvel story that has a different direction from the cinematic version that followed.

This was a pretty fun series. It has a good cast of characters, a sense of humour, and strong pacing.
