Being Britney is nuanced analysis of Britney’s key career milestones, contextualising her career – in the vein of Sarah Smarsh’s She Come By It Natural, which did the same for Dolly Parton. Otter Bickerdike reflects on Britney as “both a creator and a creation”, looking at the collective pressures that formed a diamond. This was a quick and fascinating read.

I found Being Britney informative and quite objective. It really just stated the facts that we know about her life and the coservatorship without being too emotional about it, which I appreciate. Non Britney fans can't disprove anything in it based on their own dislike of the star, which makes for a good biography.

Read it in 3 days! I loved this biography and the way Jennifer Otter Bickerdike examines Britney’s life and experiences. It is well researched, informative and at times funny and shocking! Reading it felt quite intense and fragmented - mirroring what was happening in Britney’s world. I enjoyed the succinct commentary surrounding misogyny and exploitation and how these forces controlled Britney’s life. It’s so important to examine what went wrong. Overall a brilliant read!
