I'm always on the lookout for interesting horror graphic novels, so when I saw Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees recommended in an email newsletter, it caught my attention. At first glance I saw pastels. Then I looked closer and realized there was more to it than its color palette. It may look like a story along the lines of Corduroy (a book I remember fondly from childhood), but really it's more like Criminal Minds in Busytown. I won't say too much more (spoiler risk) but I can say that if you enjoyed Beautiful Darkness by Fabien Vehlmann, you'll probably like this one, as well.

[4.5/5] “Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees” by Patrick Horvath is a stunning graphic novel that captivates with its mysterious plot and incredible art style.

The story follows Sam, a well-beloved citizen of this small town, who also happens to be a serial killer. As another serial killer shows up to her town, she starts to feel threatened and so this leads us to an intriguing story, full of amazing twists.

Despite its short length, the book does a great job introducing the town and its people. I loved this story and could totally see it as a movie. I'll definitely be on the lookout for more from this author (and this small town!)

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this graphic novel in exchange for an honest review!

A fun graphic novel that plays with its art style. Really like the juxtaposition of cute animals and serial murder. The story can be a bit generic at first to other murder mysteries, especially in the vain of Hannibal and Dexter, but the shift half way through took things into an interesting direction.

Though I don’t like Sam that much as a character (sorry I don’t find serial killers as sympathetic characters) I am interested in how her character will change over time since the sequel is already releasing.

Worth noting I planning for this to be a one and done as I’m reading it for a book club, but it interested me enough to where I’m curious to read more.
