I was looking forward to this book after seeing so many people on Instagram give it 4/5 star reviews but it was disappointingly bad. I enjoy grumpy x sunshine stories but this felt like asshole x sunshine which I don’t enjoy as much.

I was going to give this a 1 star but I will say it was extremely entertaining to read because of the plot twists that made zero sense. I felt like I had constant whiplash reading this book which started as a romance and then dives into a sub plot involving attempted murder, murder, kidnap and then to a second chance romance.

There were also some genuinely funny dialogue that was enjoyable. I also enjoyed Ava’s character in parts, I do really like the sunshine character but I find her to be quite plain at times. I honestly couldn’t tell you anything else about her despite her seeing the good in people.

My main issue with this book was Alex. I hated him so much. I found him honestly insufferable and was perplexed as to why Ava found him attractive beyond his looks - which don’t mean anything when your personally stinks.

He’s a walking red flag. His possessive nature was terrifying to read, there’s nothing romantic about a man who can’t take no for an answer and refuses to let his ex partner move on because he thinks he knows better than her. It’s ironic because his stalking in the final few chapters is even more persistent than Liam’s at the beginning.

He also straight up kills two people and just gets away with it because “his people” clears away evidence and constantly talks about how he friends with powerful people with influence - his friend in the FBI and another friend in British government. This was my main issue with Alex. He is able to get away with anything he wants because of his incredible wealth and power. I really was hopping the book would end with him in prison, losing his wealth and power because he really deserved prison for murdering two people even if his uncle’s murder felt semi justified, I don’t think “he touched my girlfriend and I’m really possessive :(” is a good defence in court. He faces no repercussions for his actions apart from being sad for a few months after the breakup with Ava and completely destroying her trust. They reconcile after he stalks and harasses her with unwanted gifts for weeks and then he goes back to being possessive and freaking out when other men look at her. He always gets what he wants because he’s rich, powerful and attractive.

I really wish I liked this book because I heard so many good things but I never find myself routing for Ava and Alex.
