The book has a bit of a slow start but then ramps up towards the middle. I enjoy the main characters personality progression… I enjoyed reading about the experiences he went through and seeing how they tangibly impacted him almost turning him into exactly the opposite of what he was at the start of reading. The ending was diabolical and weirdly not expected by me. Enjoyable definitely but not groundbreaking.

I will say the writing was gorgeous! I underlined so many beautiful musings on love and war, and now fully understand the love for besson.

aside from that, the story was emotional and tender, but I just couldn’t get past the fact that our mc was only 16 years old… what 16 year old talks like that?? lol

didn’t love the twist, but looking back I enjoyed the overall mood and message this book had to offer.
