This is my second favorite story in teh Allie Finkle series. Once again Meg Cabot does a great job of creating her charators and giving a well defined voice to all fourth grade girls out there.

Allie is torn. She wants to go watch the great Twirltacular competition and cheer on Erica's big sister Missy, but a friend from her old school, Brittany Hauser, has invited Allie to her birthday party. A party that will include a trip to Glitterati in a limo and a night in a luxury hotel. She chooses the party, but quickly realizes Brittany is even meaner than she remembered and that she has made the wrong choice. Can she get out of the situation and make it to the Twirltacular, without hurting the feelings of her new best friends.

Another great Junior grade interpersonal issue story from Meg Cabot. Allie is a spunky, tombyish hero who appeals to a number of girls. Some good stuff, although the series is starting to weaken.

I heart this series. So silly – Allie decides to go to a “glitteratti” party but feels guilt because she could have been with her “real friends” somewhere else, and it was funny and silly and dumb but turned out as things always do in these types of books. It was perfect, and it’s impossible for me to be objective because I’m such a Meg Cabot fanboy anyway.

Allie Finkle may just be written for kids, but the humor will be appealing to readers of all ages. There's great characterization done by Cabot, including older characters such as Missy and Allie's parents, that is perfect for attracting both young and old audiences looking for a laugh. Cabot is amazing at capturing all these diverse personalities of these crazy little characters. She portrays Allie and her family together so well, and having siblings, she was able to write the best scenes including realistic interactions between Allie and her brothers. The cool thing about these books is that even though they're part of a series, they can totally be read as stand-alones and make sense at the end. Allie's "rules" provide a great base of solid repetition to keep the younger readers solidly interested. I'm hoping we do get to see Courtney again in future Allie Finkle books; she makes a great addition to an already wonderful cast of characters. Overall, a completely cute read--loved it!
