I read Will of the many first and I can see how much this author has grown. I will continue this series but this book was a disappointment - if book two is similar, I will probably DNF.
The exposition, amount of characters and the assumptions that you now remember something that was obscurely mentioned 200 pages before, is crazy. The characters are all Harry Potter and you have four main characters on their hero's journey - none of which have any differing characteristics or personality traits. The battle at the end was just so weird and anticlimactic with the main characters chatting to each other half bored whilst "fighting a losing battle" - it truly felt like an after thought.

I am in awe with how many unique proper nouns are crammed into this bad boy.

I read Will of the Many first and I have to say, that system is much more interesting and well thought out. Maybe it’s because I listened to this but it would seem purposefully confusing at times so as to seem more complicated. I enjoyed it, but I’ve read better and this author has done better. It was also odd to me that all of the women characters seemed to be there for the sake of having a love interest for the men, who were the primary POVs. It wasn’t spelled out, just a sense I got from the writing, which was almost worse in a way. I’ll keep going since I have the audiobook, but it’s not my favorite series.
