I stumbled across this, as it was number one in audible fantasy downloads.
Since I do love me some fantasy audio books, I bought it without looking up reviews or anything and just started listening.
And I really didn't regret it! I did love this story! I'd never have guessed that it's a selfpublished book. Actually I couldn't believe that I couldn't order a physical copy in Germany...
It has great characters, a compelling story, an interesting world and is really well written. I got sucked right in, and before i knew it I was looking for the second one, only to realise there isn't one yet.
It reminded me a lot of the first "wheel of time" book. Not the plot per se, but the writing style and the "feeling" of the book.
I can really wholeheartedly recommend this one! (And if you need another reason - it's also really affordable at 2,99€)

This really hit the spot of wanting to read some good complicated, exiting fantasy. A lot of my favorite elements were covered, so I wonder what to expect in the next two books, which I am definetly going to read. The story is compelling and I never know completely what is going to happen next. Its also a thicc book, with long chapters, but the pages flew by and made me wanting more.
However there are some negatives as well. The balance of new questions and mystery's vs the awnsers that you get is way off. For every question awnsered (mostly even just half awnsered) there are 3 new things we have to find out. Also, all the names of important side characters are so alike and hard to remember that it adds to the confusement. For example : Malasash, Isleth, Devaed, Shateth ect. an those are the ones I did remember!
I also hope the characters get a little more depth, they are fun to read, but for now there is only one (Caeden) that I feel strongly about.
Lastly, as a first book it is pretty weak. I feel like I read 1/3 of a very large book, instead of a whole seperate book. Other series have first books that can stand on their own a lot better. But that does not take away that I really want to continue reading the Licianus trilogy.

The story was great, though the writing was really giving “first novel.” The magic system was fun but not very structured/rule based. But the pacing was well done and will definitely look forward to picking up the next one
