Loved this book. I've been looking to a new fantasy world that I enjoy as much as some of my favorites (Cosmere, Malazan, Lightbringer, Night Angel), and I think my search is over (at least for now). Not a good starting point to new fantasy readers, but for people already comfortable with the genre and more complex world building, it's great. What I mean is, you have a lot of new information given to you (city names, groups, historical figures), but you aren't held by the hand and bombarded with exposition on those topics. They are just breadcrumbs to pick up and remember while the world is built around you, and then recall later when they naturally become relevant.
The main characters were enjoyable to get to know, and some of them have great story arcs. I particularly like some of the twists that (to me at least) were unexpected.
All in all, a wonderful epic fantasy, and I cannot wait to read the rest of the series!

Great world building! the world building quality is similar to his later book, The Will of the Many. Most characters have a distinct way of talking, which is always nice, and the different perspectives each add to a collective mystery and adventure!
The first like 120 pages of this book were so god and I was so into it but then my attention and interest starting faltering to the point where I could tell I was barely paying attention to what was happening which means it's time to move on. It's a soft DNF though, I'll revisit the series at a later date because I was enjoying it.

Great start to this series! Very rich and complex world and politics to the point I'm not sure I understand what's going on entirely but I think that is the point. Excited to see the characters and story unfold. Magic system is very interesting but I wont say more as I don't want to spoil things!!
