I loved the concept of this book and it is well-written. Overall though some aspects of the story seem a bit of a tortured addition. And the Style of very short (1.5 page l) chapters while consistent with the premise is not my favourite

I wanted to like this one as the premise was so interesting (a mix of dystopia/science fiction from an Indigenous Australian perspective) but it just fell a little flat. I loved when the author juxtaposed the quotes from Ernest with her own Truth-Telling and wish there had been more of this instead of the romance storyline with Dylan that I didn’t care about. The writing got a little bit too pretentious and flowery for me at times. I also found the main character/narrator pretty annoying, at least in part because Scarlet Friday is a stupid name for a character unless they are a detective in a children’s book series.
