DNF @19%. Thanks to MacMillan Audio for this gifted copy but I just can’t do it. The writing is some of the worst I’ve read in a long time. I wanted to feel good holiday book and this wasn’t it at all. Will not rate as a courtesy to the author as I didn’t not read enough but I trust that I would not recommend this to anyone based on the poor writing alone.
Boring. Gave up at 25% nothing has happened so far. Long descriptions of nothing

I listened to this story rather than read it. I wanted a light Christmas story that I could be assured would end happily. This book did not disappoint.
The story focuses on Riley, a young woman who lives in New York City and has a job at a software company. Her boyfriend, Jack is a lawyer who works long hours at his firm, trying to earn the title of partner. Riley's company is downsizing due to AI, and she loses her job. In the meantime, her mother Beth owns an Inn in Chatham on Cape Cod. She has fallen and broken her leg, and badly needs help through the Christmas Holiday. Riley returns to her childhood home to help her mother and meets some old friends and some new people during her stay. Difficulties ensue making the story interesting.
Just the right book for the holidays.

Who’s in the mood for Christmas?!
“The Christmas Inn” is a great way to start getting into the Christmas Spirit. This is a small town, closed door, hallmark-esque type of story. Big city marketing professional loses her job due to an AI takeover and heads home to cape cod for the holidays. There she runs into her ex-boyfriend now single dad. Current big city lawyer boyfriend enters the picture, helps her find a new job, but she is not sure if the the big city is the right place for her.
This is an easy to read, low stakes filler or tandem book to read when the rest of you books on the reading list are about high stakes themes such as war, genocide, social injustice, environmental disasters, or murder. The dialog is a little saccharine for me, but overall a pleasant read if those others themes don’t float your boat or you need a break.
Also, I might need to pick up some lighter books.

The Christmas Inn by Pamela Kelley is a feel good holiday story that will tug at your heartstrings and make you believe how magical the season can be. Riley loses her job when her department is eliminated, becoming restless and ready for a change. When her sister mentions their mom’s broken her leg, Riley drives to Cape Cod immediately, to help her mother run their inn. We meet several other residents of the friendly small town, and I liked that there was a romance for people of all age groups. There's plenty of love, holiday spirit, romance, and more in this book and I enjoyed every minute of it.
The story is well done, having the perfect balance of reality and romance, which makes this the perfect holiday story.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

If you are looking for a feel-good holiday story as Christmas gets closer, then The Christmas Inn by Pamela M. Kelley is the book for you. I started reading Kelley’s books in 2021 with The Restaurant and have since read a number of her books. Most of her books are set in the Cape Cod area of the United States, which provides a charming setting no matter the time of year.
In The Christmas Inn, we meet Riley Sanders, who has just lost her job and comes home to the Cape to help her mother with her inn while she looks for another job. During her stay, we meet several other characters, including a possible love interest, and also get to experience what it’s like to be on the Cape during the holidays.
I read this in one day so I would definitely say that it’s an easy read and also very inviting.
