Fantastic and strong. A very good tale both of and for humanity. Written with such a strong voice and strong force it resonates with you.

It's so engaging and interesting that it reads very quickly. It goes down smooth, so to speak, as it remains totally unforgettable. The ending really sticks with you.

This book tackled subject matter that I was familiar with but wanted to learn more about, and therefore made it an interesting read. However, I found the plot dragging and the writing style made the details and imagery seem redundant. I understand why people praise the book for documenting the fight of African culture against European colonialism so well, but it was not my cup of tea.

Is this the quintessential text to assign in a college core requirements class? All my evidence points to yes.

One of the most thought-provoking books I have ever read. It is very tightly written, with no spare words dragging down this 150 page-or-so book. As a person with a multicultural background, it delivers a poignant reminder of my own roots, and delivers a brilliant portrayal of civilization.
