It's kinda weird. This third book in the series was not my favorite book of all three. I'd say that was the second book, although it was quite a big book. However, when I closed it and realized that it's very well possible that we will never read more adventures of the Athena Club again, I felt the tears burning in my eyes. For some reason those characters have really become friends of mine, people I care about and people I will miss.

After finishing the previous book I was very excited to start this one, especially because I was convinced that Moriarty would play a huge part in it and I love his character and what you can do with him. However, his role was a lot smaller than I had expected and the mystery was taking place in a world and story I was not so familiar with. Therefore the book didn't have the same effect on me as the previous ones, although that's a hundred percent personal preference and has nothing to do with the quality of the story.

Because once again Goss manages to write a captivating tale with interesting and layered characters. What I personally liked is that in this book we have female villains too. In the previous books it were mostly the men being villains and the girls being victims, but this story showed that there are female villains in this world too. Actually, there was not that much room for the men in this story. It was one huge female party and I loved that part. I also loved the final conclusion and the solutions the Athena Club found for its problems.

I most of all, as already stated, love the characters. And one of the reasons I'm so sad that the story is over, is that I feel like I have not seen enough of a few of my favorites. I'd really love to see more from Diana, especially since her father is still alive and up to who knows what. I'd also love to see more from Beatrice, who had some point of view moments in this book, but still not enough to satisfy my need. And I'd love to see loads more of Lucinda, who was added to the Club only recently and has barely been part of it.

So, what do I need to do to get another book in this series? Because, watch me pre-order it as soon as it's announced!

Book 3 of 3 in The Extraordinary Adventures of the Athena Club series

I’m going to miss these characters.

Life’s always an adventure for the Athena Club . . . especially when one of their own has been kidnapped! After their thrilling European escapades rescuing Lucina van Helsing, Mary Jekyll, and her friends return home to discover that their friend and kitchen maid Alice has vanished — and so has Mary’s friend and employer Sherlock Holmes!

As they race to find Alice and bring her home safely, they discover that Alice and Sherlock’s kidnapping are only one small part of a plot that threatens Queen Victoria, and the very future of the British Empire. Can Mary, Diana, Beatrice, Catherine, and Justine save their friends — and the Empire?
