As a story it's well put-together. It's ironic that fiction bows to fact in this volume.

Apparently, they are republishing this graphic novel account of Truman Capote's research in Kansas as he created his classic, In Cold Blood. I spotted an e-galley on Netgalley available as "read now" so I downloaded and read it almost instantly. I'm a big fan of graphic novels and I like non-fiction comics particularly, so I liked seeing this one. In Cold Blood was assigned reading in my high school AP Psychology class and I really enjoyed it. I remember our teacher briefly discussing the creating of the book and Capote's complicated relationship with the men convicted. I don't really know terribly much about it, so I was interested in reading this version and seeing what seemed like it could be true and what not so much. I think the illustration style suits the story well and I liked the sometimes randomness of the unravelling of the story. I'd definitely like to hear more about this history.

This was another interesting look at In Cold Blood. I liked the art, which fit well with the tone of the Clutter murder investigation. I also liked how this came at the story from a new perspective, insinuating here that Capote built a bigger relationship with the murdered Nancy than her murderer Perry, which is suggested by In Cold Blood and the movie Capote. I also liked seeing more of Capote's relationship with his partner Jack. It was a nice place to end my recent experiences with In Cold Blood and its adaptations.

I wanna start off by saying that I went into this graphic novel completely blind and I had no real premise to what it was really about, I only really looked at the cover and had only flipped through it a couple of times.
Capote in Kansas is essentially about the behind the scenes look at Truman Capote's trip to Kansas to develop his non-fiction crime novel called In Cold Blood. Now, for a good portion of the beginning I had no clue what was going on and I didn't really know how this novel was going to end. It wasn't until I reread the back again that I realized the whole premise of the book and it wasn't until then that I actually got it!
I think personally, it would have been more rewarding if I had already read In Cold Blood, because it would have added something special to this which is what it lacked for me. It just felt like a graphic novel that wasn't going anywhere because it lacked some backstory that I needed.
Although, I really did like the overall graphic style and the black and white did add to the mysterious whodunit vibe of the mother story. Some scenes did feel rushed with the style and lacked some depth but the contrast in other scenes was really interesting,
I might just visit this again, once I read In Cold Blood.

This did a good job of covering Capote's visit to Kansas and adding an interesting twist or two. A story I'm pretty familiar with despite having never read In Cold Blood. Great art.

I started reading this on a 1st-generation Nook, but it didn't work properly. I ended up reading it on my laptop.
This book is a graphic novel based on Truman Capote going to Kansas to investigate the Clutter murders as preparation for what would become his novel In Cold Blood. The artwork was good. The stark black and white worked well for the subject matter. The storyline was interesting as well.
I was a bit confused as to who the young female character in Kansas was supposed to be. I realized later that she was a "ghost" of one of the Clutter girls. Once I realized that, it made much more sense.
Reading In Cold Blood before reading this graphic novel is not necessary, but it may be helpful. I read it several years ago and thought it was a terrific book, and I think it made the graphic novel more enjoyable since I was already familiar with the basic story.
I read the author's note at the end and found out that there were some liberties taken with parts of the story. I am not sure what the liberties were, but it is good that the author acknowledged that some things may not be exact. Overall, I thought the book was well done and would recommend it to anyone interested in Capote or his work.

Ce livre n'était pas vraiment pour moi. Il n'y avait pas assez de substance pour moi. Tout joué sur le ton et thème de noir et blanc. C'est drôle mais dès que j'ai écrit cette phrase j'ai commencé à apprécier ce livre un peu plus parce que derrière les images il y a le personnage de Capote qui n'est pas facile à comprendre. Ce livre me donne envié de lire, enfin, In Cold Blood. C'est un livre que je connais en général - comme la plupart des américains mais je ne l'ai jamais lu. Aimerais-je ce bd plus si j'aurais lu le livre avant? Je ne sais pas...
