Absolutely loved it.
Would reread it again.
Would reread it again.
I did it! This book was so profoundly beautiful, revealing and also so sad. I loved Hamilton's journey and I wish things were different. Eliza is now my hero and she went through so much and still never lost herself. Just amazing!
78. This is perhaps one of the best, if not the best biography written. I can't imagine the amount of research that went into this work. As we follow the life of Hamilton, we also follow the history of the formation of our country, when freedom was but a dream and then realized. If you are to read only one biography this would be the one that I would recommend. Excellent work.
The ten dollar Founding Father without a father
got a lot farther by working a lot harder,
by being a lot smarter, by being a self starter...
So turns out that Alexander Hamilton's life was even fuller and even sadder than the musical tells us. Ron Chernow is my favorite biographer and this is as good as the one about Washington. It's long but worth it. He really does a great job focusing on his subject through the complicated tangles of early American politics.

I like the physical book better but as far as audiobooks to listen to while walking around campus goes, this was good.
An amazing biography of a truly remarkable man. I love Chernow's books and LMM, so this was fascinating to read both from the historical and musical perspective.

the first half of this book is non stop action. i can really see how lin was inspired to create a hip hop concept album based on this. the middle dragged a bit. ok we get it he made some banks. but then it picks up again and we get the reynolds pamphlet and the adams administration and the election of 1800 and his son dying and THE DUEL!
idk why i thought this book would make me feel better about the current state of our country. if anything, it only further emphasized the fragility of the american experiment. we’ve had despots before (adams you jerk!) but that doesn’t mean democracy is inevitable.
ALSO this further emphasizes our supreme court is made up of fucking idiots. who the fuck cares what the founding fathers thought about our rights. they were literally spending all their time writing pamphlets about how much they hated each other. i do not give a fuck what james madison thought about my right to abortion.
