I began this book after listening to the cast album for "Hamilton: A Musical", repeatedly and watching many interviews with Mr. Lin-Manuel Miranda wherein he mentioned this book, and the story of Mr. Hamilton.

I'd not known very much at all about Alexander Hamilton. I remember being taught that 'the founding fathers' were all rich landowners who had a lot to risk in supporting revolution. Obviously, that wasn't true of all of them.

This book is incredibly well written and it's the story of a brilliant, interesting man. About the time that Washington is elected, the book shifts from simply chronicling the life of Hamilton to discussing the political climate of the time and his interactions with the other various important political figures of the day... which is also very interesting.

I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys biographies, well written stories (if this was fiction no one would believe it possible- his story is really improbable) and anyone who has become fascinated with the current Broadway play.

man somebody should do a musical about this dude!
informative

Incredible. I am in awe of the amount of information and first hand accounts within the book.

A very large and long book but very well written. Incredibly fascinating life Hamilton led that’s for sure. And if you’re a fan of the musical you can see where Lin-Manuel Miranda got all of his inspiration from.

Great supplement to the Hamilton musical that paints a much more complete picture of the man. It doesn't shy away from the negative points from his life like the Alien and Sedition act. It is especially interesting if you haven't read much else on other founding fathers. If you have read a lot of other books on the time period you will probably find the 738 pages / 30 hours of audiobook a bit extreme and dock it a star.

At times I was amazed by Hamilton and his accomplishments, at other times the political climate was too similar to our own to be enjoyable to read.

Lin-Manuel Miranda did it better
informative inspiring medium-paced

Should have been a President. Hamilton, not Chernow. But in typical Chernow fashion, a monster book but very well written, and easy (and entertaining) to read
