A fantastic book. Thanks to the musical Hamilton for sparking interest in this fascinating man. I learned so much about the founding of the United States and about the political climate in which it was formed that is not so far removed from that of today. Hamilton's brilliance and charisma on so many fronts shone in Chernow's telling, as did his maddening fatal flaws which led to his senseless death. I was really enthralled with this book and a little sorry to have it end.
It almost seems unfair to give a rating of anything less than 5 to this beast of a biography. True confession though; I LOVE historical fiction, can't get enough of it, gravitationally drawn to it. With that said and considering the popularity of THE musical and current political climate, I took on this serious, thoroughly and lovingly researched behemoth of factuality.
Good intentions aside, I ultimately finished reading the majority via Audible. Academic and dense, I just wasn't up to the task of knocking this one out easy chair. For this commuting mom, Audible was the perfect solution and, might I add, news cleanse . Turns out you only have to dial back 200 or so plus years to find deplorables.
Ultimately this book evoked the kind of emotion often experienced with less academic endeavors. Kudos to Chernow for gifting us with this well researched account and portrayal. #thunderstruck.

I couldn’t possibly give this less than 5 stars, even though it wasn’t as good as “Team of Rivals.”
The ten-dollar founding father without a father got a lot farther by being a lot smarter; by working a lot harder.
No seriously. In my opinion, the success of the Broadway show is probably 50% due to this book and 50% to to Lin-Manuel Miranda’s adaptation.
Anyhow, it’s a really good bio an underrated founding father. He wasn’t perfect, but he was really important to these United States. He and Benjamin Franklin are the most important Americans who never became President.

In preparation for seeing the musical, I thought I'd brush up on my Hamilton history. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the whole story. I can see why Miranda found a musical in there.
Honestly, it was amazing! Super informative. However, it was just too much at times.
This book was easily my favorite read of 2020. Read it if you love the Broadway musical. Read it if you love American history. Read it if you want context for our current political environment. It is the most comprehensive and colorful biography of one of the most unique humans in this country’s origin story.
Struggling on how to rate to this one. This is extremely intricate account of Hamilton’s life. However because of how exhaustive the biography is, it is dense, dull, and a little bit of a chore to get through at times. Applaud Ron Chernow for this book, but felt like a slog at points.
I didn't finish this book. It was rather dry. I tried to, it just didn't work out. There were some fun facts in it, but it wasn't really my thing.
