The second volume in the invincible series. It get's even better than the first trade. the guardians of the galaxy are introduced in here (and they remind you very much of another superhero team) and mark/invincible deals with new problems and opportunities (what if two attractive girls want to hang out with you?)

These stories take your average superhero story and turns up the heat. This mature take on superheroes is a fun adventure. Definitely would recommend to comic book lovers!

This is good, but for once I admit I liked the show's handling of some elements better. Which said, a show has a lot more room for plot elements, and the character changes really worked.

What I lIked :

So having read what happens in the next volume , I think I am a bit overzealous with my rating ... Sue me !

There's just a pure sense of entertainment and fun in this comics , breaking the stereotypical superhero tropes and making fun of it all but also making entertaining adventures and daily live struggles of a teenager plus the obvious growing up story for Mark aka the titular Invincible for the reader to enjoy .

Simply said it's fresh , its funny and it's unique and it's one of the best thing out there that I have come across .

What I didn't Like :

The art I'm still not a big fan of , although I don't know what happened but towards the end of the volume the art seemed to improve and gain some consistency , specially in terms of background colours and facial features . I think maybe they changed the illustrator towards the end , not really sure.

Also I think Mark's mom character and his best friend's character weren't fleshed out or given enough page-time until this volume (ofcourse that all changes next volume , Oh i can't wait to talk about the next volume).

Overall

If you enjoy superhero comics but are tired of the stereotypes that these days Big Two (DC & Marvel) follow than you MUST read this , since while it delivers as a Superhero comics , it also makes fun of those stereotypes and the end result is a fresh , clever and unique comic book . A MUST BUY !

Book Summary:

Mark Grayson has always known he would be special someday. No, really – as the son of a famous superhero (Omni-Man), Mark has always been confident that his powers would one day show up. And he was right. Now he's a teenager turned superhero-in-training.

Now he's starting to get the hang of being a teenage superhero. Though it's a bit more exhausting than he expected, juggling school, a social life, work, homework, and superhero work. The good news is that he may have found a team of superheroes teens that get him.

My Review:

Wow. I knew Invincible Vol. 2 would hit hard, as the show is still ahead of this point (late to the game on reading this series!). But I wasn't quite prepared for all of it, you know? This volume introduces the primary hero group for this world – The Guardians of the Globe.

It also has Mark deal with multiple threats, some of which he still doesn't know the depth of. Only time will show how bad that will get (though I think we can all guess). This series does a really good job of teasing plot points. They'll show up for a second and feel like a little detail, but it's sooo much worse. I'm enjoying this change-up, though it's probably not the best for my anxiety!

The balance between humor and horror was really well done in this volume. A lot is going on, obviously, but smaller humorous moments help to make it more palatable. Never underestimate the power of a good chuckle!

The artwork is solid, especially given how many characters are now involved. Interestingly, different artistic teams seem involved in different elements (such as the different superhero introductions). That's a nice touch; it gives them their own feel. Also, uh...anyone else notice the Charlie Brown references, or am I a total goofball here?

Highlights:
Part of a Series
Superhero Teen
Coming of Age with a Twist
Now an Amazon TV Series

Trigger Warnings:
Can get VERY graphic at times

This is where I really understand who this comic got popular. The JLA parody was on point, hilarious and I actually wouldn’t mind seeing some of the characters more in depth.

Debbie is an angel and we don’t deserve her as usual.

A fun, fast-paced and hilarious romp of superhero poking while also having a great surprise twist! I'll definitely be looking for more.
