While snowed in at a rest stop, a woman sees a child’s handprint on a van window and upon further inspection realises there might be a child trafficker among the friendly faces trapped with her.

I really enjoyed this. While I was initially mildly upset that the twists were clunky and easy to foresee, the last fifth of the book really surprised and intrigued me and the plot was gripping.

On the whole I highly recommend, especially if you enjoy tense thrillers with relatable leads. Darby Thorne, you have my whole heart.

 *exhales* Ok, let’s unpack.

Wow, this was gory. I am a thriller reader and this was… a lot. I became squeamish often and had to put the book down a few times to just take a break.

I loved the fast pace of the plot and I read this fairly quickly. It definitely had some really great shocking moments throughout which was nice as opposed to one big plot twist in the last 10% of the book.

I was confused for the first half of the book because it felt like everything had already happened so early on and I didn’t know what else could be coming (there was more so that’s good but it was an interesting story design). This was a book centered around the main character making dumb mistakes. Some of those plot points hit and some were a miss for me. Let’s just say that Darby has the WORST luck. Ever.

One more small thing that was just a little cumbersome was one of the main male characters was named Ashley and another female character was named Jay and it just threw me off sometimes. I know they are androgynous names but it was just a small issue of mine.

Overall, this book kept me reading, had multiple shocking moments, and was a great read!

I listened to this as an audiobook so I can't speak about the writing too much, but from what I heard it sounded pretty good. This book is so interesting and I could never bring myself to hit pause. There were so many twists and turns and the ending was just *chef's kiss*
