An examination into grief by way of a perfect replication of stand-up. This book is certainly not for everyone, but it is beautiful, crushing, and absolutely worth the read.
Graphic: Suicide, Suicide attempt, Death of parent
כמו תאונה חזיתית עם משאית - רק שלא הייתי מוכן לבלום. יצירה חזקה שלא מרחמת על הדמויות או הקורא. יצירה מפעימה

Why the long face?
This book really makes you a part of the audience. You go through so many emotions when reading this 'stand-up' act, and it is all reflected in the expressions and actions of the other spectators. With everyone else you feel awkward, exasperated, you want him to get to the point, you wonder how this is supposed to be funny, and you finally give in and listen.
It's another book I've read from the Man Booker International Shortlist which is short and intense (set over only an hour or two), best devoured in as few sittings as possible to get the full impact.

Very fresh in the way its written. The humour, though ambient is worthy of a standup comic. Even the writing style is like reading a transcript of a stand up show, so with respect to getting these elements right, author does a great job.
The book made me appreciate how a lot of people use humour, body language as a shield to hide what is actually going on in their minds and they are always insecure if they are pulling it off. It is also sort of a reflection of how a lot of these people need help and love to get out of this but the society just brushes them away

There is an unsettling feeling the entire time you're reading this and are rushing to get to the end to see how it will turn out. This is an ingeniously told story by a stand up comedian in a crowded house in a village in Israel. Through jokes and slapstick he uses as an aside, he gets serious as he tells the audience the story of a particular point in his childhood that would have an impactful effect on his entire life. Over the course of two hours, he loses all but fifteen audience members, who have stayed until the end to hear his heartfelt story. Two of the audience members are childhood acquaintances he hasn't seen since that time in his life, one of which he intriguingly invites to see his performance to tell him what he sees.
