Digital audiobook read by Rebecca Gibel
Coffeehouse Mystery series book # 7 finds Clare Cosi in the uncomfortable position of catering a wedding reception for. The bride-to-be is a Trend magazine’s editor – wealthy, beautiful, sophisticated and a known tastemaker. But when people connected to the event begin to die, Clare’s radar goes into high gear and she starts investigating.
I like this series. It’s populated with a nice cast of recurring characters and Clare’s romance with detective Mike Quinn is heating up nicely. There are plenty of suspects and some twists and turns to keep the reader (and Clare) guessing. I find all the references to foodie culture and explorations of different cuisines, desserts and beverages (including various coffees) entertaining. Recipes are included at the end, and I’m really tempted to try the Lomo Saltado included in this volume.
Rebecca Gibel does a fine job narrating the audio book. I especially like the way she voices Madame, Clare’s ex-mother-in-law.

This one bored me. I found it too predictable. And I didn't like that Clare didn't feel like solving this one. Even once she was on the case it didn't feel at all like the way she was with the other mysteries. I enjoyed Roman. I wish he hadn't dropped out of the book. Was he even at the wedding? If so, I missed him. But at least Clare and Breanne are getting along now. That was cool. But then there's the fact that Clare's life was threatened with a knife at one point and I felt really disconnected the whole time. Maybe partially because it was so predictable, but also because it was so fast? I don't know. This just didnt grab me. Not even the scenes with Mike either. The scenes with Nunzio were actually intriguing though, and I'm glad she got away without sleeping with him. But even as she talked about it being because of faithfulness to Mike, I don't know, I just wasn't feeling it. Maybe in the next book?

The racism, classism, sexism, and negative stereotypes of just about every type of person is getting unbearable, its so bad, these are bad, they are annoying and bad and I genuinely think I am reading them to torture myself. I hate these books, the pacing is off, the mystery is dull, the romance is bland, the characters are like cardboard, this woman says "dear old bookie dad" too many times, the coffee talk is just these insanely long info dumps, everytime I read I think its the worst thing Ive ever read and I cant believe that someone would write these and publish them and then I think that its impossible for these to get any worse and now Ive read SEVEN SEVEN?????????

Another good book in this series. Not the best because we weren't at the Village Blend enough but Claire did manage to do a lot more sleuthing in this one.
