Omg it’s Swan Lake but Irish!!! I love it. It’s sooooooo fucking slow paced tho. I had to bump to 2.25 speed to move thru it faster. Def curious for book 2.
I really enjoyed parts of this but also found other parts hard to follow. Beautiful writing.

A Feather So Black reminds me a lot of the Wilderwood duology. There’s a unique world of humans and The Folk that is split by gates. Fia the changling is pulled in so many different directions by people wanting her to do their bidding.
It was hard to tell who was being genuine with Fia and who told her what they thought would make her serve their purposes. The ending is perfect for the start of this series. There is still plenty of story left to tell but it’s not left on a massive cliffhanger that makes me want to throw things. I will definitely be continuing the series!
I received a copy of A Feather So Black via NetGalley to read and review.

I like the line by line prose of this book a lot. I can imagine some people might find it too verbose, but I like verbose so it worked for me. This is very much a romance heavy novel, and I was hoping it was more fantasy aligned. I did like all the characters involved, but it was just a little short on plot and world building for my taste. Also the main character has beaucoup de sex in this, unprotected, and there’s never a discussion about the possibility of her being pregnant or how she was preventing pregnancy from happening. This is such a nitpick, but the girl has a lot of unprotected sex.
This was a beautiful and quite stunning story. The writing was eloquent and kept me engaged through some parts that were quite slow. I appreciated how the author mentioned physical details multiple times as it really helped me keep a picture of these characters in my head throughout the beginning world building phase. The author also kept certain personality attributes on the forefront and allowed hidden motivations to unravel as the book progressed.
The author did a brilliant job at taking creatures we all know such as changelings and fae but brought about an interesting spin. The main character, Fia, never losses sight of her mission or who she is yet goes through a journey through both. I think this is a great representation of the "monster" and how no one ever wants to be viewed that way and why. There are parts that explain why characters behave a certain way and what motivates them but it is all done through Fia. I think that was a true testament to great writing. I always love a multiple point of view but I wasn't missing it.
There was a little bit of spice but I do think it made the story complete. The author did a great job keeping the tone of the book throughout all parts of this book. I am excited for the rest of the series to come out!
