Favorite Book of 2025
...so far at least.
It was everything I love in a book. Dark fairytale fantasies, especially when they have that romance subplot are my absolute favorite. This book not only fit the bill, but exceeded expectations. Lyra Selene has earned my love and automatically buy/read status from me.

Extremely slow paced. The writing itself is often beautiful but I feel like I’m reading the MC thinking the same thoughts over and over again. Seventeen chapters in and we’re still re-hashing the set up!? I can’t.
Moja ocena 7/10

Actually this was a lot of fun!
I am a sucker for Celtic folklore and this seemed well researched and very immersive. The purple prose littered throughout lent itself beautifully the the dreamy atmosphere that accompanies a world of Irish/celtic folklore!
I do think this book was a bit too long. The plot seemed to army crawl to its conclusion and even then, sometimes it lingered. When Fia went to the Fae lands the plot moved forward and then she’d leave for the month and it would stand still again. The lingering eventually made me excited she went to the fae worlds but annoyed when she left!
I really liked the characters. Their motivations were understandable, even when I was annoyed with Fia and her choices I understood her introspection and the reason for her actions. That being said…once again sometimes I felt we lingered TOO long on introspection. Like yes I get it you’re made of thorns and rot and spooky scary things. You don’t feel like you deserve to be loved we’ve been through this already lol.
On that note surprisingly the romance with the love interest felt a little unearned? She only sees in…12 times? Once a month for a year? So it was like clockwork every time they meet another layer of him gets peeled back but I never really understood…why? I don’t feel like I know him as a character very well at all where as other minor characters like Cathair and the queen I felt the relationships were more fleshed out.

Got about 20% of the way through and was enjoying it but just don’t have time to finish it. Will definitely come back to it in the future!

I should’ve DNFd when I thought about it…
Starting from the first chapters I know this book was not for me. Basic story, long to start, the prose was not my style, the characters felt really flat, etc etc
