I suggest to take this book at face-value. The authors provide a solid outline to the three attachment styles: secure, anxious, and avoidant. However, the foundation is heteronormative and white, so the book does not take into consideration a diverse surplus of voices and their interconnected attachment styles. Regardless, the book is still helpful for improving one's self-awareness and confidence within ourselves and relationships.

At times, I found the language to be loaded. The examples would be heavily black-and-white, or the diction would feel biased. This book functions more as a "self-help" rather than a "psychology" text, though there are few psychology studies in-between. Still, I found myself pondering my past relationships and my current relationship with myself; so the book did well in its job of raising self-reflective questions and providing a foundation on how to regulate my insecurities and emotions.

As someone who is freshly single and floats between anxious and secure attachment styles, I found some examples to resonate with me and others to be blown out of proportion. Hence, it is important to keep in mind that these styles are more fluid than its language. There is hope where one wants to improve on their insecurities, and to remember that it takes two for a relationship to work - not just one. Nonetheless, the book serves as a good/solid navigation tool for my therapy sessions.

I learned I was an avoidant type, rather than anxious (originally) and I am learning to be secured.

I wish I had read this book in my twenties, when I was single & it was first recommended to me! Fortunately, there is a lot to learn and apply within these pages for those at any age who want to improve their relationships. Personally, I felt my brain rewiring as I was introduced to concepts and research in this book.

Repetitive, lacking rigor, and somehow both vague and excessively prescriptive at the same time. Also provides next to zero information for anyone who is not firmly in one attachment style. Does not take into account other issues that would seemingly impact attachment styles, like other mental health disorders or trauma.
