The tension is IMMACULATE - ve schwab has conjured another masterpiece, all the characters are incredibly insane in this book

I'm definitely enjoying getting the backstory on the characters in The Fragile Threads of Power!

A great sequel to Darker Shades of Magic. As the characters were already established, this book dove straight into the plot and action scenes, and it kept my attention throughout. It included new settings and characters, but also made reference to the first book. There were a couple of instances of character inconsistency in my opinion, but I was able to move past. Although it didn’t have the closure I was hoping for, it has great build up to the third book.

2.5

This was better than the first one and I think it might have been a solid three if it weren’t for the ending. The world is a little bit more solid, though I still have questions. Definitely still a little gooey in the middle. But I was enjoying it. But then..

Kell is a complete idiot.

Also, I questioned in the first book if Kell and Lila were supposed to have chemistry. Turns out, they are. Problem is, they just don’t. Every time they’re forced together it feels…forced.

Also, Lila is the worst. The lack of consequences for her is infuriating. First she kills a man to get on a ship she thinks is pretty, and everyone’s like, “cool, we never liked that guy anyway.” Then she knocks out a competitor in the Essen Tasch tournament to take his place and sends him away to some far off place, I think as a criminal? And everyone’s like gosh Lila that was RECKLESS of you. You’re so reckless and dangerous and stuff. You could get in a lot of trouble!! Only…she doesn’t. In fact, people HELP her. And WHAT ABOUT THAT POOR GUY!? She does all these things cause she just wants to, and she gets what she wants. She’s so “not like other girls.”(She literally says this). She’s insufferable.
