I really had a hard time getting into this one for some reason. I think the pacing was just a bit slow for me and some of the plot points fell through.

This book was captivating! I loved how the House was a character in itself, and how the stories about its origin were like latticed legends. I would’ve like some more development in the side characters, but the atmospheric nature of the book and the slow unfurling of the mystery more than made up for it. Highly highly recommend. Would be the perfect October read!

I really loved this book. I’m not typically one for romance but this one was handled really well, I thought. It wasn’t overly done. and I loved the complexity of so many of the characters (Opal, Eleanor, Arthur, etc)

A beautifully written book!!!! A masterclass in showing not telling, and one of the sweetest depictions of a developing relationship I’ve ever read. 

Loved the homage to beauty and the beast in the story, love the found family aspect, and love a man who is constantly kneeling for a woman 

Also the first book I’ve read where the two main characters are supposedly ugly??? Felt (surprisingly?) represented. 

I feel like this review makes this book sound like a romance and, like, it IS a love story, but it’s definitely not a romance and I love it for that
