I originally read the sequels to this series first and am now returning to meet the parents.

I already loved Lily and Lo, so I'm glad that I still do! It's really neat to see how it all started.

The whole situation with Ryke though felt very random and unbelievable, there was probably a less abstract and more realistic way for him to wiggle into their lives.

The romance was not a spicy as their later books, the pace felt a little slow, but overall was still a great book. The best thing about this book over the sequels is that there are actual problems and real angst. Much appreciated.

the main character of this book is very much dislikable… which i actually enjoyed!
if you like a semi-smutty romance, then this is for you!

+ easy and fast to read
+ promising sequels
+ lots of “devil’s-tango”
+ likeable characters

- no real plot twists
- no peak of tension
- expensive as shit, I mean come on nearly 18€ for a paperback?

Am I addicted to this series? Yes. But is it good? Meh. So far, the characters do not really have any depth. Yes, the main characters both have serious problems with their addictions and some with their families, but that’s about it. They both go to college/university and both kind of fail, so they do not really have any life outside of their relationship, since they do not attend classes. On the other hand, the series is more about their developing relationship and overcoming their addictions, I think.

Although their relationship started off weak and how deep they were connected was not really showing, I start to see how they are connected now. Mainly because of how often Lilly stresses, how good their “system works” and that they accept each other’s addictions. I do love the bantering, teasing and tension between Lilly and Loren.

Their addictions are portrayed pretty realistic, although sometimes I tend to get aggressions, when Lilly whines about her being bad due to her addiction. But I guess, that’s actually the case when you are addictive. So good there.

As already mentioned, they do not really have a school life or any life that does not concern themselves or their relationship. They both are rich, so they do not have to work and have everything they need which makes the plot pretty boring. But while I sometimes get annoyed by the fact, that they have all given to them, I think that it thematized often enough, how rich they are and what possibilities it opens for them. For instance, how they got into Penn University: through money and last names. Also, I do wish I was that privileged.

The main characters are not the picture-perfect people, with zero worries and a tremendous amount of money. But the only way to make them not picture-perfect is to give them an addiction, that’s their problem. Not, not being to pay the bill or having serious family drama, but an expensive alcohol addiction and sex addiction.

I feel like the authors wanted to write about people with no worries and who have everything, but then remembered, that a book like that would be boring and just added an addiction. Honestly, I would love to read a book once where there is literally everything fine and perfect, with no drama or worries.

The “plot twist” of the half-brother? Yeah, I could smell that shit pages away, before it was revealed to the characters and reader.

Since the book is only the start of a series, I think the characters will develop depth and I do hope, there will not be that much “devil’s-tango” in the next books.

4 stars because it was a bit slow in the beginning but when it picked up it got good. Also NO THIRD ACT CONFLICT!!! Lo and Lily are definitely not perfect but you can tell they love each other a lot. I can’t wait to see them grow as people!!

4 star read⭐️. honestly i really liked this book and i’m fully committed to finishing the series but here’s my review on book 1:

during the first 30/40 percent of the book i couldn’t get into it. like the plot was appealing the characters were cute the writing was easy to get through but it felt repetitive. like yes i know their problems but must we cover it every chapter. every chapter felt like the same thing for a while but then everything switches.

when we meet connor cobalt i was suddenly so freaking interested but this book isn’t about him :)

i loved lily and lo so much. like if this book was a standalone with an epilogue i would EAT IT UP. but i get to read 4 other books from lily and lo’s perspectives which i would happily eat up.

4 stars because the book was really good. the past 2 chapters had some PLOT TWISTS. i was out here gasping every page. but i have such a high expectation for this series so i want to start off slow.

OH and. when i finished this book i went RUNNING for the second one because that ending left me shook i needed more. okay bye <3
