This is a must-read book. If you didn't read it as a kid, pick it up now. Pippi is hilarious, and the adventures she has with her friends are unbelievable. Oh, the hours I spent as a kid daydreaming about being the strongest girl in the world with a suitcase full of gold coins at my disposal!
This is also a great read-aloud.

Pippi Longstocking
I remember my mom reading Astrid Lindgren's classic story of "Pippi Longstocking" to me as a child. It is still fun to read but it was a different experience as an adult. As a child, I thought the idea of Pippi living alone with no rules sounded amazing and now I find myself wondering wh

Definitely one of the better children's books. Pippi is a great role model for all girls.
adventurous
lighthearted
Det er en klassiker, og det er der en god grund til.
This one took us a while to read, simply because we kept getting distracted. There was a lot of good here - the boys loved the humor. They thought the silly things she did, especially the physical humor stuff, was hilarious. There was also a lot they didn't understand, but I tried to slip in explanations as we went, so I think they enjoyed it overall.
What is it with precocious red haired girls with names of two of the same letter in the middle (Anne, Anne, etc) that makes for such an appealing character?
Pippi is all the things kids love. She’s exuberant and energetic and exotic and eccentric. (I didn’t intend for those to all be e words but there they are.) She has the air of authority that kids only ever see in adults and struggle to believe they can ever possess. Her demeanor lends her the ability to carve out her own place in the world, sans the seemingly arbitrary rules from those pesky parents. She’s every kid’s dream character. I think the only downside in the book is that reading it to the more mischievous kiddos could be disastrous. They might get some wildly imaginative ideas from Pippi’s cleaning methods (ice skating with soap basically) or her choice of company (a monkey and a horse usually). The imagination itself is fantastic, but it could certainly lead to some dangerous scenarios.
Reminder to myself: proceed with caution before reading this to the more mischievous kids in the family.

“I have noticed several times that people don't think I know how to behave even when I'm trying as hard as I can.”
★★★.5
This was cute! It read more like a series of vignettes as opposed to having an overarching storyline, but I enjoyed it nonetheless!

Reading with the girl. Loved these when I was little; still do. She likes them, too.
Listened to on a road trip with kiddos. E walked backward the rest of the day and older girls both slept with their feet on their pillows. Fun story.
