I'd recommend this book for anyone who likes dark academia type of stuff. That being said, the book is heavy/dense and it takes a while for it to truly pick up.

If you love secrets/scheming/secret agendas, multiple POV's, and dark academia/magic stuff, I would definitely recommend this book! However if that doesn't sound like something that interests you, this book probably won't be your cup of tea. Some of the characters feel snooty or with a superior complex but I think it's normal to pick favorites of your characters depending on who you empathize most with. The dialogue does get a bit wordy at times and I am definitely guilty of skipping paragraphs here and there once it was but I truly did enjoy the book. I just have attention span/instant-gratification needed issues.

I am still unsure if I like this book or not, or if I’ll pick up the next in the series. There is a theme of actualizing your full potential and unfortunately I think the author missed the opportunity to do the same.

I did find myself enjoying moments of this book and some of the plot battle scenes, but other times I felt like I might put it down unfinished.  The writing often felt like the author was glancing at a thesaurus and it brought me out of the story. I expected more character development and actualization of plot to happen but the pace was so slow and the world is not well depicted.

I can see why it has a cult following and once I dive into this genre more, I think I’ll know if it’s worth it for me to continue.

Reading the first pages I didn't have many expectations but I was nicely surprised by the complexity of the characters. Now I am kind of curious about how will the story continue, although the revelation made me feel like the antagonist turned into a simple caricature of a villain (hopefully their motivations and personality will be further explored so they feel more complex and interesting)

I really wish we had gotten to see more of Reina’s backstory (haven’t seen any spoilers for TAP so I don’t know if they go more into her in that book). All of the characters are so interesting, and I’m OBSESSED with how everyone has such good chemistry with one another. It’s such a good book.
