I'm no expert in India's politics and the conflicts happening within the region. This book is not the be-all and end-all of understanding the history and the political climate of India, specifically Modi's administration, uprising of Hindu Nationalism and the conflict in Kashmir. It's a very long history and the region is so rich with its different cultures and religions. However, this is a good start for readers who want to dip their toes into political literature and expand their reading outside of the Western world. It's an easy to understand collection of essays with Roy's occasional sarcastic humour. In the essays, Roy provides enough context to understand and follow her arguments. Though at times, the information provided were rather repetitive. If anything, I think this book speaks more about Roy and her as a "writer-activist", what inspired her past works and how the arts, literature in particular, play a role in times of unrest.
