Chris Bohjalian is, by far, one of my favorite authors. He's one of those authors that I know will always pull me out of a reading slump. The day I was approved for The Lioness, I legitimately squealed with excitement. While I wanted to start reading immediately, I had other books I needed to get to first.
I finally got around to reading The Lioness and it was everything I had hoped for. It's action-packed, mesmerizing, powerful, and up there as one of my favorites from Bohjalian. As I read, I could already see this being made into a TV Show or feature film. It's so descriptive and atmospheric.
Highly recommend.

HUGE thanks to Doubleday Books and NetGalley for the digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Interesting premise, but a convoluted mess. Ending each chapter with a cliffhanger didn’t create narrative tension. It was just annoying.
Wow - what a great book! Hooked me right from the beginning and I enjoyed how the story was told from the different points of view.

***Thanks to Penguin Random House for providing me a complimentary copy of THE LIONESS by Chris Bohjalian in exchange for my honest review.***
The Lioness is a gripping work of historical fiction. Reading about the safari from different viewpoints was thrilling as the story unfolds. At first, I found the flow of each chapter to be difficult to follow. Each chapter is told by a different character and starts at a time before the safari and ends with the character's experience during the safari. After a few chapters, I understood that the backstory in each chapter directly connects to the story in Africa and the development of each character.

I've never read any of this author's books before, so I wasn't sure what I was getting into when I chose this for a book club. I did enjoy reading it and I'm looking at some of the other books by this author for future reading. The story, a famed actress takes her family and friends on a safari to Africa and chaos ensues, was quick to draw me in and I was surprised by some of the plot points. There is some violence here, some people get eaten and others get shot during the kidnapping. I didn't find it to be too much, though.
