This took me a bit to get through and to get used to the back and forth. Overall a good suspenseful book. But you definitely have to pay attention or you might get lost in the details.

So many characters. So much going back from now to past in this book. I have never read any of his books but I wasn't impressed with this one. Very depressing, not sure why people want to even visit the wildlife. Visit the zoo instead.

Katie Bristow, newlywed, gathers family and friends to accompany her on her safari honeymoon. While on safari, the group is ambushed. The group is kidnapped, but why? As the characters tell their stories, their pasts are revealed. Do we need to atone for the sins of our fathers? What is a life worth?
Chris Bohjalian weaves a frightening and gory tale of world politics, always a great story.

Rounding up from 3.5 stars. What can I say, I enjoy Chris Bohjalian's novels. It's hard to review this one without spoilers, and I hope it's not too much of one to reveal that unknown narrator of the Prologue ends the second paragraph with "We went [to the Serengeti] and (most of us, anyway) died there in 1964." The rest of the chapters are narrated by different guests and employees of the wildlife safari that turns into a deadly ordeal. Don't start the last ~60 pages if you need to go to bed soon; in true Bohjalian style, the final chapters are page turners.

Absolutely fabulous book! The characters, setting, story... it sucked me in from page 1. Literally only stopped reading because I had to, or this would have been a one-day read for me.
