I loved the movie and this character, I decided to read this book.
I typically like a lot of action and drama happening. The first half of this book, for my feeling didn't happen as much. That is why this book put me in a bit of a reading slump and I kept putting it off.
However, I loved the second half of this book. More action, character development, interaction with characters. I loved getting to know Doric as a character more as well. I think it is beautifully written and worth a shot if you're thinking of reading this book.
It wasn't anything special, but it wasn't bad. Just took some time getting into it.

It’s a pleasant surprise to read a movie-tie in novel that actually has a good story, good writing, doesn’t rely entirely on the movie, and develops a character and their backstory so expertly. It’s not a masterpiece, but it is a fun, heartfelt read.
Graphic: Child death, Violence, Xenophobia, and Abandonment
Moderate: Bullying, Child abuse, Grief, Fire/Fire injury, and Injury/Injury detail
Minor: Cursing and War
Be warned that displacement, deforestation, animal attack, and neglect are explored within the book.emohell's review against another edition

this was cute! didn’t enjoy it as much as I wanted to, but it was nice to get some more insight into Doric’s character.
