Wow, this was not what I was expecting

Regular Review Style:

1. I love Dragon

2. I HATE HARRY! HE PISSED ME OFF!

Here's the real point: Paranoia has a physics to it, and even with something as insubstantial as paranoia, over time it gains substance, has weight. Secret societies are a result of paranoia, not the cause.

3. See above quote. This was the only thing I liked from Harry's perspective (And Dragon). Mostly because, this is the same type of logic that forms cults. Make a group of people paranoid and you can manipulate them. It's also the reason an uneducated society is easier to control. If people are uneducated, they're less likely to do their own research or be able to tell credible sources from not credible sources, therefore they listen to those in power, those who *say* they have the knowledge (heavy on the say). They won't question those in power. Societies that are uneducated cause little change in systems even when they are bad (for a real world example, take the dark ages in Europe).

4. No Gods, No Monsters is a genius title

5. I know Ripley had his problems but I did enjoy his perspective, I also really liked Laina's perspective.

This book is well written. I listened to the audiobook and couldn’t care less about any of the characters. Also *spoilers* had I know it was werewolves I would have never picked it. Same for the mass shooting. Talk about traumatic.

This book was absolutely riveting. Loved how Turnbull played with PoV and brought so many different perspectives in on community, how we work together to make it, and how growth is not a one-and-done event. The breadth of characterization and focus on culture drew me in, and wanting to see how the seemingly separate threads would come together kept me hooked.

Each thread of the story is interesting... but it's hard to follow and keep everything straight because there's so many. And that means the plot doesn't really seem like it can move forward much.

It's a fascinating world, but I don't really feel like I got to see or experience it much.

at NO point in this book did I understand anything at all. I even don't know if it's supposed to make sense. can confusion be the plot of a book? did I just fully miss the message for 300+ consecutive pages?
seriously questioning my literacy skills, but I actually had a good time. don't read the first half while you're eating. good luck.

Caribbean-inspired fantasy, looking at monstrosity in society via actual "monsters."

Trans guy rep~! Poly rep~!

Be advised it's the first in a series so don't expect a neat ending. Also there are tons of characters.
