One Last Stop is a simple sci-fi romance stuffed with quirky characters with small supernatural elements.

Good and interesting characters that don't bore because they're new (even thought they follow character tropes, they aren’t underwhelming). I’m rooting for all of them and I like their dynamics a lot. They’re a found family.

I found the main couple a bit boring unfortunately. They seemed to be the only characters I hoped more from. I guess it was hard for me to understand their struggles.

The story involves queerness past just the romance. It discusses queer history and shows it through the perspective of a character that has lived through some of the worst of it. It gets emotional and heavy.

I’m not a huge fan of the writing in this book. Millennial new adult book humour and dialogue is not my personal favourite. Some of the romantic sap got a bit too repetitive, corny, and just overall didn’t work for me. Some, however, did. It’s a mixed bag. The descriptions are vivid, engaging the senses. It’s the dialogue that didn’t work for me.

This book is nsfw and has some graphic sex scenes. I was not expecting this especially having reading Red, White and Royal Blue which was was not nearly as explicit. However, props to Casey. That is how the lesbians are doing it.

I was expecting a different ending. But it’s not a terrible ending.
Exactly what you’d expect from a romance. Gays deserve happy endings!! Jane and August got theirs. Either way, I was waiting for it to end.

Tldr: I love these characters, I want to be their friends, and this clean 2020 version of New York sounds fun.

📖 One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston Book Review 📖

9th book of January 2022 and 9th of the year:

Another amazing book by a favorite author! I laughed my butt off throughout the entire book, fell in love with all of the characters SO quickly, and loved all of the representation and the queer found family aspect in it. I fully want to read an entire book series based on Jane’s life, and I also can’t wait to start the author’s newest book! Some author-provided TWs are (on page) drinking, light drug use(weed), semi-public sex, sexual content, exploration of depression and anxiety, memory loss and cognitive issues, familial estrangement, familial death, grief, missing persons, implied PTSD, and (off-page/past/alluded to) homophobic violence and hate speech, police violence, the AIDS crisis, racism, childhood neglect, arson, and a historic hate crime resulting in loss of life📚♥️🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

This book was super super fun and was exactly what I needed at the time! Super funny yet emotional when it needed to be, I say if you need a good, lighter read during times like these to go ahead and give this book a try :)
