Double Dare is the most recent book in the Neighbors from Hell series. I have enjoyed all of the books in the series. The Bradford family is an interesting group. They are very close knit, and are frequently together. They are a barrel of laughs. The things they do to each other... Darrin Bradford and Marybeth have been friends for years. In all that time the have been double daring each other. Age hasn't tampered down the game. They have also loved each other for a very long time. Here is where the problem comes in Darrin is trying to do the traditional family kidnap. Marybeth refuses to go public, but everyone knows. Marybeth has a huge secret and it is affecting her decisions. Mix the challenges with double dares and you have the making of a humorous book. I wish I could give it a higher rating, but there were some confusing parts that took away from the story. I kept going back in the book trying to find what I missed. I am still looking for the answers.

Oh no. This was my least favorite NFH book thus far.

One of the main things I love about the NFH series is how much damn fun it is. Every book is hilarious, with physical comedy, witty back-and- forths, and most importantly... almost no angst. All books need to have their "dramatic moments", but they tend to end quickly and efficiently in this series. Just like I love them to.

But no, not in this one.

This is the only NFH novel where the main duo is already a closeted couple at the beginning of the novel... and herein lies it's problem, I think. Normally, Mathewson does such a fantastic job illustrating to us how two people move from contemplating to murder one another to passionately in love in a way that is absolutely delightful.

But in Double Dare, we have two people who are already in love... but aren't together properly. Because... reasons *ceue in drama. An endless stream of drama.*

While Mathewson had a plausible reason for why this couple is not together, she just didn't pull it off all that well. Instead of understanding the characters' plight, I was mostly annoyed with Merybeth's bullshit and wishing she'd cut it off by at least a half.

Maybe if Darrin and Merybeth stopped changing their minds every five seconds, maybe if they'd decide to be together and just be together, maybe if every moment of happiness wasn't followed by we can't be together...

Maybe then this novel would've been as enjoyable as the rest of the installments in the series. But it wasn't, so....

I really loved this one. I loved that Darrin and Marybeth have been in love forever. And I cried when I realized that Zoe was their surrogate. It was a more serious book than the rest of the series, but that is ok. I love reading about the Bradford family, and how they stick together.

How I wanted to love this book. Hey even liking it would have been a step in the right direction. I couldn't finish the book. I refuse to torture myself by reading a book that I find disappointing.

Darrin and Marybeth have known one another since they have been 7 which I loved then there is a scene when they were 10 and another one when they are 15. Fast forward to the present and well they are sort of in a relationship. More than friends with benefits.
I had enough of the "I hate yous" and the double dares.

Up to book 4 I was estatic about these books. Book 5 was ok but this book not so much. The 7th book will be out in 2016 so I have enough time to think about whetever or not I want to continue.

Please note this is my personal opinion and in the general scheme of things that doesn't mean jack shit.

I hate to say it, but this was probably my least favorite of the books and i think a large part of it was Marybeth. I get it she has medical issues but the holding pattern that she had Darren in was just not fair and she was just not my favorite of R.L. Mathewson's heroines.

I loveeeeeeee anything this woman writes. That means I love torturing myself emotionally because that's what she keeps doing to me. The series just keeps getting better and the characters are growing through the whole book. I just love them. Still keeps me on my toes with the drama, while being emotional and hot at the same time.
