Oh RLM how I wanted to love this. I truly do enjoy your books. They're great for what they are. But I confess I did not find myself laughing nearly as much as I normally do. Maybe it's because your most recent NFH book is too fresh in my memory. Idk. I liked these characters mostly. But Marybeth was rather frustrating.

Semi spoilers but nothing that will ruin the book ahead:

SEMI SPOILERS START HERE.

And I find it hard to believe that Darrin would have really let her tag him along for six years before hauling her across state lines. I also would enjoy more of their background story. How did the sexual side of their relationship even start? And is Marybeth his one and only? I mean if he's know since they were seven, it would make sense.

Anyway. Yes. For the most part it was another enjoyable read. But I'm ready for you to continue the cursed heart series. Maybe give NFH a rest and come back in a year or two with a fresh story.

But don't worry. I still love your books and plan on reading them.

This book is exhausting and not in a fun, good way.

First of all, Darrin is fine. I think he's a good man and he proves it through the book.

Marybeth on the other hand, is horrible. I really don't like how the author had Marybeth treat her diagnosis as a death sentence when it's really not. She also was terrible to Darrin and played with his emotions and heart for six years that they could've been happily married and I'm glad Darrin mentions it in the book.

I really came to hate Marybeth in this book and I also don't like how we had literally zero build up to them falling in love.
SpoilerThey were basically an established couple who were having more sex than most of the married people in the series
, but one of them *MaryBeth* had her head up her ass for the majority of the book.

I'm disappointed in this book.

EDIT: I'm still thinking about this book and I have to add this, it's extremely fucked up for Mary Beth to string Darrin along for six years when her plan all along was to dump him so he could marry someone to have children. I'd be furious if I invested time into a six year relationship only to find out I was being played and lost six years that I could've been happy with someone else and could've been married and had children. Darrin is too good for her. I'm glad Darrin got his HEA, but I hate the "heroine" in this novel and I use quotations loosely, because she's genuinely the worst written female to date in the series.

This was not a favorite of mine, I didn't care for Marybeth and the things she did. I loved Darrin and the Bradfords and I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

REVIEW:
I love, love the crazy Bradford boys and couldn’t wait to see what chaotic mess was going to bring Marybeth and Darrin together. This pairing was quite different from the rest as they were already good friends and grew up together, meaning Marybeth knew how crazy Darrin was already with food. Mathewson always hits the high note with her humor she creates with her couples but also adds the family dynamic to help the story along.

Double Dare follows Marybeth who has lived her whole life being friends with Darrin, all the while dealing with their strange habit of double daring each other. Neither would say no to a double dare and even though they want to practically kill each other for some of them, they still have remained friends. But as they have gotten older Darrin is tired of waiting for Marybeth to cave and realize he has feeling for her. All the while Marybeth does care for Darrin but she’s also keeping a huge secret that could alter their relationship all together.

Darrin is hilarious and also a cop, he and his family of Bradfords have a serious obsession with food and never end up with their life partner in a normal way. Darrin has always loved Marybeth, their relationship started changing becoming more intimate and daring of course. But he cant seem to get her to see how much he wants to be with her. He also doesn’t make it easy as his mistakes and dare make her mad half the time. I love his sense of humor and how he loves Marybeth for who she is not what she can give him.

Marybeth has been friends with Darrin since they were kids, but its always been one dare after the next. She is also very close with his family and loves them all and Darrin so much. But she has been sick for quite some time and it is affecting the way she sees her future. It also causes friction between her and Darrin when she wont open up to him. Marybeth was actually really hard to connect too at times because of her decision not to tell Darrin the true reason she couldn’t be with him. I would think after all these years they have been friends she would want to be truthful with him. In the end I’m glad Darrin stuck to his guns.

Overall I can never get enough of the couples and the family that love their food and chaotic romances. Mathewson knows her humor and how to make the pages steamy with her romance. I cant wait to see what happens with Reese, I know he’s going to have a challenge on his hands with whoever catches his eye.

I did not like this book at all. All it managed to do was piss me off! I don’t like Marybeth at all! I’m pissed at Darrin for letting her get away with all of it and not confronting her on her bullsh*t. I agree with Kenzie! Marybeth needs to either accept the fact that she loves him and he loves her or let him move on! Gosh I don’t like her one bit! All they do is have sex and they solve everything with it and they use it as an excuse for all of their messed up BS. She lied to him for years because she didn’t want to “worry him”. Wtf. He says he’s walking away and then three weeks later he’s back and she thinks she has the right to be mad at him? She lied for years to him. Basically used him for sex when she knew she was never going to marry him. Why are his brothers still talking to her after she forced him to walk away because AFTER he told her she was it for him and she was his family! She said no. He then apologizes for their rough start and says he loves her and she’s all he needs and SHE KICKS HIM OUT. WTF?! Just when he says he’s done, she comes back yells at him and then leaves and he feels the need to apologize. Again. I don’t like either of them and of it wasn’t for my OCD telling me to finish the book then I wouldn’t have.

It's definitely not the best in the series but I don't think it's ridiculously bad. Their obsession with food is starting to annoy me. Quite a lot in fact. The whole "I love you but I can't get pregnant so I'm not good enough for you" really pissed me off. Women are much, much more than just their uterus.

The whole thing could have been resolved in probably 150 pages but I digress. It's an okay read when you can't sleep.

Ok so I've been a big fan of this series from the beginning. I'm always on a lookout for new books from the series, so when I heard about Double Dare I marked the date on my calendar. I'm sad to say that I couldn't even bring myself to finish it. I really tried but this ended up being a DNF. It just felt like it was stalling for a few chapters and nothing was really happening. It was just so repetitive. I also felt like maybe the Bradfords need to be put to rest for a while. All the books are really similar and it's become incredibly predictable. There's no more excitement to it because if you've met one Bradford then you've met all of them. They're basically all the same person at this point , just with a different name.
I love RL Mathewson and this book just wasn't the best but in no way does it reflect the quality of the rest of her books. I recommend every book she's ever written and I'm so loyal that I' m probably going to try and finish this book , which is something I never do once a book is vanished to DNF Land. On another note , I read the blurb for the next book and that one sounds a little better so fingers crossed everyone.

I just feel meh about this book. I wanted to like it, but I hate that she kept something so huge away from him for so many years. I guess I understand why she didn't do it when they were younger. And even later on she tried to tell herself that he didn't really lover but I mean they were sleeping together for 6 years! You can't be someones "fuck buddy" that long without catching feelings.

It was honestly just too much drama. I love this series because it is silly humor. Two couples who argue and play tricks on each other is just funny and then you have the Bradfords with their freaking food. That family is a bunch of nuts. But this one wasn't funny.. it was too serious for what I was expecting.

The best part about the book was the little extra I got at the end of the book that wasn't even about them it was about Jodi and Danny having a baby. They gave her drugs and that's just freaking funny.

Sighhhh !
gobbled up yet another NFH book. I must say i really liked Marybeth. Not only was she headstrong but she dished it to Darrin like a pro. This book got me frustrated, hot & bothered, happy and wanting to read more. Props to Mathewson for yet another great Bradford brothers read. So excited to read Reese's story. I'm sure it will be great !!
