Don’t let the tragic backstory in the beginning fool you—this book was such fun! All of the supporting cast had great personalities that added to the story. The fact that this book was written in a universe for a card game that I don’t play did not impede my enjoyment in the least! Not sure what was MTG and what was Sanderson but I don’t really care either haha. Just a good time all around. And a short Sanderson book? Lovely!

It was so hard to find warmth in the darkness. But when the night grew cold and the darkness came for you, that was when you needed to light a fire.
And make your own light.

I quite enjoyed this! (To be fair, I'm pretty much always up for magical music)

A great little short story. Took me four or so chapters to get hooked but then I couldn't put it down. Luckily you don't need any M:tG knowledge to appreciate it, but I'm certain I missed some subtle hints and references.

Neat, a little bit Complex but Precise

Innistrad is a land where one tries to live while demons and monsters populate the forests, and mystical Entities influence the land and one's people. When a village is wiped out, a cursed girl wants to get her vengeance on powerful Man of the Manor.

I've played Magic ages ago, but the knowledge about it wasn't needed - Sanderson is really a master of worldbuilding. The world is indeed interesting, both bleak and hopeful. Tropes are abundant and the twist quite unsurprising, but this was a nice, cozy book around 200 pages (a novella really, considering Sanderson's other work). I found the characterization to be a bit weak - I never really remember or care about Sanderson'd characters, really.

You know, I'm pretty sure that if Brandon Sanderson decided to write a story based on a cooking recipe it would still be epic and the characters compelling, because I have no evidence that he can do anything but that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I know nothing of Magic, but I enjoyed this story! The characters were so compelling and intriguing (and veryyyy humorous!), the story, although really short, kept me always interested and intrigued aaaaand the magic system had also a very Brandon Sanderson touch in my opinion (again, knowing nothing of Magic).

Another fantastic Sanderson book! It was fun to see him get a chance to write a story in the Magic universe, considering how much of the card game he plays. Overall a very exciting look at a tiny plane far from the main action in the multiverse that's definitely worth reading for anyone who likes Magic, Sanderson, or just good fantasy.
