An absolute must read masterpiece of modern fiction

Loved this - definitely worth the hype.

Kaz - absolutely love him. The way he is driven entirely by revenge for his brother's death is heartbreaking. Him and Inej... They need to happen. The ending with him asking Rollins if he remembered him was everything and I can't wait to see where that goes.

Inej - her background is so sad and I just want the best for her. I love her friendship with Nina too, they are great. Her skill at the wraith is insane too and I like how it was explained though her upbringing.

Nina - love her! she's so confident and strong and really protective of her people. The history between her and Matthias is intense and I'm glad she got to take down those who hurt her. The sacrifice at the end ??? Wow.

Jesper - also great but I feel like there's more to his story that what's been told so far. He's really funny and has great relationships with everyone.

Wylan - I feel so sorry for him for how his dad treats him...so glad he finally got to know the truth. Him and Jesper are cute and I hope that develops more in the sequel!

Matthias - so many mixed feelings. I like him with Nina but she's too good for him. He's also very hung up on his past in a way that doesn't really make sense but I'm glad that he's finally realised that he was in the wrong. the scene where he 'imprisoned' Nina was so tense wow.

I picked up this duology after binging the Netflix series in a couple days. I really liked the characters from this duology, and I wanted to see how their story differed from the show (it combines the Shadow and Bone trilogy with Six of Crows, so the book and show don't align).

I never knew that I wanted to read an "Ocean's 11 but with fantasy and magic" type of book, but now I want more! The characters are even better in book form and the chapters swap between their perspectives, giving you a more in-depth understanding of who they are. The story is filled with clever schemes, thievery, romance, and moments where the characters seem truly trapped and have to pull something out of their pocket to escape. Never a dull moment with these characters.

The sequel picks up right where this book leaves off, keeping the tension going as the characters navigate the trouble they keep attracting. The only thing I hate about this book is that it ends!

If you're looking for a good fantasy series with protagonists that you can't help but root for, this book series is for you. 5/5
