emotional reflective sad slow-paced

Some books you read for the plot, some for the characters, and some you read for the beauty of every line that it contains. This book falls under the latter, every single word being necessary and so thoughtful in its creation.

I still can’t believe this was written in 1949, being so vulnerable and honest in its portrayal of a queer character. For a book written over 70 years ago, I related so deeply to some of the passages and feelings conveyed.

Just beautiful, so so incredibly beautiful.

“The emotions have no liking for fixed order. Instead, like tiny particles in the ether, they fly about freely, float haphazardly, and prefer to be forever wavering...”

i didn't know Yukio Mishima was such an interesting individual; incredibly introspective and so in touch with his own desires and limitations

even though I was aware that Confessions of a mask was partly autobiographical, only after finishing it, I actually found out how Mishima lived and, more importantly, how he died

this book is basically about obsessions -- obsession with appearances, identity, sexuality, violence, death

I quoted half of it in my notebook because 1. it's splendidly, lyrically, majestically written and 2. it gives you absolutely no choice but to reflect on your own stuff
