Раньше читал "Золотой храм" и был разочарован. Люблю японскую прозу, но вот Мисима не зашел. Прочитал "Исповедь маски" и на этот раз не разочаровался. Пока читал не покидала мысль, что книга - это единственный доступный способ проникнуть в душу другого человека и даже побыть другим человеком, вне зависимости от времени и места. В этом романе сила книги очень сильно проявляется.

I had such high hopes in this one but ultimately I was not able to connect with the protagonist. Probably, because the beginning had so much Freudian psychoanalysis that was done in retrospection and then projected onto the young protagonist. That was just too charring and odd for me. Later on, it became a lot better about this issue. In some sense, it's a coming of age novel, but mostly it's a lot of introspection psychoanalysis done on oneself... Not sure what that was supposed to tell me.
