"Confessions of a Mask" by Yukio Mishima
"Confessions of a Mask" is the second novel and a semi-autobiographical one by Yukio Mishima, written and published in the year 1949. The book is the story of a schoolboy who, with the help of literature and the arts, heads on to a quest of his self-discovery. Gay, attracted to men and struggles with female relationships, he not only discovers himself, but feels that somethings are missing from his life, thus him wearing a "Mask" because he couldn't really show his true self to others.
MY THOUGHTS:
So this novel is the better novel I've read than "The Sound of Waves" because in my own opinion, this novel captures the essence of what being a member of the LBGT+ is, even in modern day. I didn't know the actual premise of this novel before reading it (Well I have a habit of not reading the synopsis and other contexts and premise of the novels I read for its shock value and other unexpected twists etc.).
This novel is great, I was reading it late at night and woke up early to actually read it and get the most out of it for both the morning and the afternoon.
This book is the equivalent of Dazai's "No Longer Human", it is just that it isn't depression the main character of this novel is dealing with but the trouble of acceptance by other people.

This isn’t the book for the political snowflake that cannot handle socially “immoral” behavior, however it’s great , really beautiful
