This was a good time. I don't have much to say about it. I'm not a fan of the way this is broken into climate seasons and months but the intense pining and self-doubt that I love so much evened it out. I'm also unsure how a woman was drafted into the NHL as anything other than a goalie but maybe thats explained in the first book that I skipped.

Nate's intense anxiety was illustrated really realistically and I love him and Nate helping Gags with his. His anxiety loads to extremely poor self-esteem which I'm a sucker for. Zach's self doubt comes from thinking he isn't lovable or wanted past partying.  It makes for a gut-wrenching book full of anxiety, agonizing, and fear but it was so sweetly fixed at the end and the scene of Zach listing all of Nate's good traits was very sweet.

I am just so consumed by Ari Baran's way with words and their storytelling skills. The way the characters feel like they live outside the pages, like this is some sort of biography rather than a romance. The eye for detail and the guts to just let the characters figure themselves and each other out.

Where Game Misconduct was brutal and fiery with burning hate and personal pain, this was the glowing warmth of friendship and team spirit.

I am just waiting for the next thing Ari publishes. Hockey romance of fantasy fiction - count me in ✨
