An action-driven start to a solid YA Sci-fi series. I look forward to the next installment.

Good fun, good characters, set in the UK not the USA which for British readers is nice.

The book. Well, let me see. I enjoyed the ideas and the plot, as they weren't too complicated and has interesting themes, and it's a good take on an alien invasion. However, it wasn't written especially well (not badly, just not fantastically) and there wasn't heaps of character development amongst the protagonist, but there was a bit with some of the lesser characters. All in all, not a mind-blowingly amazing book, but not one I wouldn't mind reading again sometime.

It was OK, it reminded me of Charlie Higson's Enemy series without the zombies. Competent writing, little character development, a lot of action. One big honking d.e.m. at the climax. Very YA but more in the low-reading-level style. There is a sequel but not sure if I'll go for it.

I picked this up on a library run, in part because it was a book 1, and I recognized it from the video game. I've always been interested in how games get turned into prose, as I know it's likely to catch my son's attention -- fast.

The first part of the book is written in 3rd person limited POV, because only the MC is able to resist the invaders' mind control. At that point in the book, no one else has a POV, literally.

When he meets up with other kids his age who can resist the aliens' mind control, the story is told in 3rd omniscient POV. My son said the switch was "weird" and he wasn't sure what was going on, at first, but he figured out the reasoning for it, eventually.

He was fascinated by the aliens. He likened them to the "squids" in The Matrix. It's dystopian because aliens have taken over the world, turning people into a zombie-like workforce for a soon to-be-discovered purpose. If you've played the game, you know what that is.

A good read of a video game's backstory.

I can't wait to read the next one! It's the first book written by Mark Walden that I read and I enjoyed it very much, that's why I'm eager to read the second part!! I already bought it and I'll have it by tomorrow, so my guess is that I'll spend the rest of the week finishing the trilogy.

The pace is perfect. It's a quick read. I didn't get to live in their world, but more like spectating.
