Prefacing this with the fact that Aubrey Gordon is a fucking delight and her podcast Maintenance Phase is brilliant.
Gordon brings a much needed perspective on one of the most pervasive and acceptable form of discrimination there is: fat shaming. As a fat person, she shares experiences that might be "unbelievable" to some but are all to0 familiar to many others. Gordon's is a voice that most won't hear, either because they don't know about or don't want to, but really it made me reexamine not only the actions of those around me but also my own as what she calls a "small fat" person.
I definitely found some of the stories she tells about her own experiences triggering because, frankly, they're just hard to hear. Her anecdotes about travel, going to the doctor and the concern trolling of both friends and strangers are jarring, but this isn't My 600lb Life. This is about agency. This is about self-determination. This is about recognizing that being fat is not a death sentence or a burden on society or any of your goddamn business.
She did repeat a couple of statistics in a few difference places, and that's kind of meh, but overall I think Gordon did a great job of providing an overview of the problematic ways we talk about fat people.

This was an interesting read, and it really highlighted struggles people don't often think about. I don't know if I agreed with the entire book, I liked certain pieces of it though. It really portrayed people who are thin or thinner in a negative light and how they were missing out on life. And like, I get it, but you can't build up one group of people while tearing another down for similar reasons. I read this to expand my knowledge base, and it's an ok read.

Didn't find the overall tone of this book very conversation-inducing. It somehow felt very complaint-ridden, vs. challenging and thought-provoking.
