Listening to her podcast the Maintenance Phase has really led me to recognize my own biases and the anti-fat attitude that was imbued throughout my childhood - and reinforced by the world of competitive gymnastics. Gave me a lot to think about. Her experiences of explicit bias and cruelty were really astounding.

Required reading- so important and so necessary for fat justice and beginning/continuing to root out our own anti-fat bias. Aubrey is also such an engaging writer, it’s both educational as well as wonderfully engaging.

I didn’t realize I held so much prejudice in my mind/heart until reading this book. Everyone should read this book.

This book is an honest, knowledgeable, and heartbreaking look into how fatphobia has permeated every aspect of life, and how fat people navigate through the world. It's one of the few nonfiction books I read that actually suggests plausible solutions to this problem. I just wish books like this were mandatory reads for all healthcare professionals (and really, for everybody, thin, fat, and everything in between).

I learned a lot that I didn’t know about the everyday lives of fat people. I didn’t realize how privileged I am to be straight-size. I will not be laughing at fat jokes any more.

Really well-written. Gave me a LOT to think about. I love Aubrey’s voice on Maintenance Phase, and if this is ever an audiobook I will listen to it to reinforce the more complex ideas.
